Benvenuti Winery in Kaldir concentrates on Istrian Malvasia, Teran and Muscat. Its range extends from fresh Malvasia and rosé to the matured Livio wines and the single-vineyard Santa Elisabetta Teran and San Salvatore Muscat.

Which wine should you taste first?

To understand the differences within the range, begin with the Istrian Malvasia from the Tradition line and compare it with Malvazija Livio, matured in a large, previously used oak cask. Among the reds, Caldierosso blends Teran with Merlot, Nebbiolo and Tempranillo, while Teran Livio and Santa Elisabetta offer two matured expressions of the local grape. San Salvatore is a sweet single-vineyard Muscat made from late-harvested grapes that are dried before vinification.

San Salvatore also has two recent, precisely attributable awards. The 2021 vintage received a Platinum medal and 97 points at the 2025 Decanter World Wine Awards, while the 2022 vintage won Gold in 2026. The awards apply to those vintages, so ask which wines are open for tasting and which vintages are currently available to buy.

Vineyards on the slopes around Motovun

The first vintage under the Benvenuti name was released in 2003. The winery now farms 22 hectares around Kaldir and Motovun, from lower vineyards at Brkač to San Salvatore at 400 metres above sea level. The soils include flysch, clay and limestone; on the slopes around Motovun they are often described locally as white soil. Fresher wines mature in stainless steel, while the Livio range and single-vineyard wines spend longer in large, aromatically neutral oak casks.

What does a tasting involve?

Three programmes combine a winery tour, five or six wines and small local bites. Tours and tastings are not private, last 70 to 90 minutes and are held in Croatian or English. They begin at 13:00 or 16:00, require at least two participants and have a seated capacity of 18.

The wine shop and tasting room are open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 19:00 and closed on Sunday. In your enquiry, include the preferred date and tour time, the number of guests, the required language and any dietary requirements. The visit is confirmed only when the winery replies.
