Učka Nature Park
A perfect destination for all hikers and nature lovers
Mount Učka represents the natural border between Istria (and its mild continental climate) and the County of Primorje and Gorski Kotar (and the Mediterranean climate of the Kvarner bay). It is possible to cross from one county to another through the Učka tunnel or by the old road over the mountain. This mountain became a Nature Park and a protected area in 1999.
The proximity of the sea favors the vegetation and climate of Učka, which makes it an ideal habitat for protected plants and animals. It is possible to visit the Nature Park in several locations.
We have listed some of the most interesting ones:
Poklon (922 m) is a mountain pass that connects two mountain massifs Učka and Ćićarija. Here you will find an information office, a souvenir shop, and the Poklon mountain hut.
The Poklon Visitor Center offers multimedia, interactive and educational experience. The goal of this center is to raise awareness of the importance of the protection of nature. The center includes a conference hall, souvenir shop, coffee bar, and a classroom for children divided into four parts to symbolize the four seasons.
Veli Planik (1272 m) is the highest peak of Ćićarija. You can reach it via four hiking trails.
Vojak (1401) is the highest peak of the Učka Nature Park. It is possible to reach it by car or via four hiking trails.
