Umag
Croatian Capital of tennis and neighbor of the westernmost point of Croatia
The town of Umag is located in the northwest of Istria, only 10 kilometers from the Slovenian border. Umag is best known for tourism and sports. It is also called the capital of Croatian tennis because the oldest Croatian tennis tournament named Croatia Open is held here every year.
The old town of Umag has a wide gastronomic offer. Sit by the sea and enjoy Istrian cuisine in one of the restaurants or have a coffee or a cocktail in one of the numerous bars. Visit the main square, walk past the Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary, learn about Umag’s history in the city museum, and get lost in its narrow streets. Stop by a gallery or get yourself a nice Istrian souvenir.
If you have the opportunity, visit Savudrija - the westernmost point of Croatia. Here you will find the oldest lighthouse on the Adriatic coast.
Some of the beaches that we recommend visiting are Kanova, Polynesia, Punta, Laguna, etc.
Umag is one of those places that are always worth visiting - no matter the season. Summertime is the period in which you will be able to attend festivals or other events. Also, you will find most of the restaurants and shops open. However, spring and autumn are the perfect time for a peaceful vacation. Explore the city and its surroundings with less crowd.
