More than two decades ago, Mate Vekić planted his first olive tree in Zambratija at the age of 75

There’s an interesting story behind Mate olive oil – at the end of the last century, at the age of 75, Mr. Mate Vekić planted his first olive tree and built his own oil mill in Zambratija, a village near Cape Savudrija (the westernmost point of Istria). Over 25,000 olive trees now grow on that land, and the oil produced there is of the highest quality. All this is confirmed by the fact that this olive oil was rated 99 out of 100 in the thirteenth edition of the Flos Olei guide for the best olive oils in 2022!
