Istrian truffles

One of the main synonyms for Istria is certainly the Istrian truffle. These mushrooms grow in moist soil along the valley of the river Mirna and are found exclusively with the help of specially trained dogs.

There are two main types of truffles - black and white. White truffles are of better quality and therefore pricier.

In Istria, you will find many traditional truffle dishes. Some of the most famous ones are fuži (homemade Istrian pasta) or other types of pasta with truffle sauce, white or black truffle spreads, or truffle frittata.
