Kažun Park in Vodnjan
Have you ever heard of the Istrian Kažun? If not, you have probably seen one while driving through Istria. These small one-room huts with round layouts served as rain or heat shelters for shepherds.
Istrian Kažuns were built using the dry-stone construction technique, which means that stones were placed on top of each other simply as that. In other words, with no mutual bond.
Such shelters are still present along the coast in the Mediterranean.
One of the places where Kažun shelters were most present is Vodnjan, near Pula. Today, you can still visit the Kažun park, which is an open-air Kažun museum.
