Dvigrad
Protected cultural heritage of Istria
The medieval town of Dvigrad is the most visited cultural heritage in the area, and represents the foundation of the Municipality of Kanfanar’s cultural identity.
The settlement is situated at 150-175 metres above sea level. Access is through the city gates that lead into a suburb that was once protected by the city walls. A second gateway was built into the second ring of the city walls. It is only through the third gateway that you can enter the heart of the city, where at the top the Church of St. Sofia was built on the bedrock. This historical town will enchant history lovers in search of Istria’s hidden gems.
